A large shipment of 150,000 goats has departed from the port of Bosaso in the Eastern Province of Somalia last night. The livestock were transported on 8 boats and 2 ships and are destined for Gulf countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Yemen.
The animals were inspected by local officials including Puntland State of Somalia’s Minister of Animal Husbandry, Mohamed Abdullahi Libage. The shipment is part of an ongoing effort to export livestock from Somalia to markets in the Gulf region.
In addition to Bosaso, there is also ongoing livestock departing from Barbara port to the Gulf of Arab. The export of livestock is an important source of income for many Somali farmers and traders.
The shipment of goats from Bosaso is a sign of the growing demand for Somali livestock in the Gulf region. The successful export of these animals will provide a boost to the local economy and support the livelihoods of many people in the region.
