Addis Ababa: The 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) is set to commence on Saturday in Addis Ababa. The Summit will focus on critical challenges facing the continent that hinder integration and development efforts.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, this two-day summit, which has attracted leaders from African nations, will take place under the theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” Foreign ministers from AU member countries concluded their 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on Thursday, where they discussed critical topics aimed at promoting Africa’s political, economic, and social growth.
The council has conducted elections and appointments of commissioners of the African Union Commission. They have also assessed the draft agenda and decisions for the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, scheduled for today.
During their two-day Summit, African Union Heads of States and Governments for their part will consider this agenda and make decisions. The election of the new African Union Commission Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson is also one of the main agendas of the AU summit.
The 38th AU Summit presents a crucial opportunity for African countries to work together to tackle the challenges that obstruct integration and prosperity. The implementation of AU’s Agenda 2063, a strategic framework aimed at transforming the continent into a global powerhouse, will also be the center of discussion.
This ambitious vision not only seeks to address the challenges Africa currently faces but also aims to lay the groundwork for sustainable prosperity, inclusiveness, and peace. Leaders of African countries, and heads of international organizations including United Nations Secretary General Ant³nio Guterres are in Addis Ababa for the Summit.
