Addis Ababa: The 44th Ordinary Executive Council Session of the African Union (AU) kicked off here in Addis Ababa, earlier this morning.
The Ethiopian high level delegation led by Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie is participating in the meeting, it was learned.
A two-day session of the executive council which has brought together all foreign minister and representatives from member states of the African Union, will discuss various issues for the upcoming days.
Moreover, the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) that focus on education is also anticipated to be held from 17th to 18th February 2024.
In 2024, the African Union is set to pay special attention to education and training with the theme of the year focusing on ‘Educating an Africa Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Qualitative, Lifelong and Relevant Learning for Africa’
The African Union believes that success in the e
ducation sector will have significant knock-on effects on sectors such as security, control of population growth, the empowerment of women and girls, agriculture, digitalization, and migration, among others.
Its theme for the Year 2024 is also devoted to pondering over an in-depth reform of education in Africa, with the prospect of training young people endowed with intellectual, scientific and ethical capacities to serve the transformation of the continent, it was indicated.
