Ada-East District Assembly training women in organic pesticide production 


?Ms. Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, the Ada East District Chief Executive, has announced that women in farming communities in the district are being trained in organic pesticide production.

She said the intensive training programme is to provide hands-on knowledge in organic weedicide production and application as well as safety protocols to eradicate destruction of crops by pests.

It is also aimed at promoting gender equality and agricultural development to address the under-representation?of women in agricultural and pesticide management.

Ms. Pobee told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the main ingredients for the pesticide production were neem leaves and pepper, saying that steps were being taken to acquire machines to upscale the training to boost food production instead of the manual method the women were taking through.?

She mentioned that it was important to enhance food security, improve crop yields, and stimulate economic growth, as well as involve more women to use their expertise to help grow the secto
r.

Ms. Dugbakie said: ‘We are proud to support women farmers in Ada and provide them with the tools and expertise to contribute meaningfully to the agricultural sector.’?

?She stated that there would be mentorship programme, and knowledge sharing among themselves to ensure the long-term impact of the training, noting that Ada’s contribution to the national food basket would continue to increase for the benefit of the country.?
