Accra: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved the Accra Sports Stadium for the TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Ghana and Sudan.
CAF recently banned Ghana’s Wembley, Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting competitive matches after identifying several issues, including a playing field that was deemed unsuitable for professional football.
The decision mounted pressure on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure Ghana provided a venue for the clash.
A statement from the continent’s football body said ”Following a comprehensive review of the reports of the CAF independent inspection regarding the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025′.
It charged the GFA and the National Sports Authority to prioritize the necessary enhancements to the pitch and other critical areas of the stadium.
According to CAF, the Accra Sports Stadium would be monitored cl
osely ahead of the game, as well as for future competitions.
The Black Stars of Ghana would hope to snatch all three points from their Sudanese counterparts on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Otto Addo and his charges remain winless in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, recording one draw and one defeat in their last two games.
