AngloGold Ashanti Officials Inspect Key Projects in Obuasi.

Obuasi: Officials from the Sustainability Department of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine, along with representatives from the Obuasi Municipal Health and Education Directorates and journalists, have conducted inspections of ongoing projects funded by AngloGold Ashanti. These initiatives, focusing on health and education, aim to enhance the quality of life for residents in Obuasi and its surrounding communities.

According to Ghana News Agency, the inspected projects include the Community-based Health Planning compound and nurses’ quarters at Apitikoko, the Dokyiwa/Binsere Health Centre, the Obuasi Robotic Centre, the New Dokyiwa soap factory, and the Akrokeri Hospital theatre/laboratory expansion. At Apitikoko, site engineer Mr. Richard Opoku Minkah reported that the CHPS Compound project, initially scheduled for completion in July this year, faced challenges that have postponed its completion to November 2024, with the project currently 62% finished.

Mr. Roland Boakye, the project engineer for the Dokyiw
a/Binsere Health Centre, indicated that while the work is progressing well, material supply delays have moved the completion date from June 2024 to the end of December 2024. Meanwhile, the New Dokyiwa soap factory is nearly complete at 99% and is expected to boost the local economy by providing a secure soap production facility for women.

Mr. Godbless Densi Amankwah, the project manager for the Obuasi Robotic Centre at the Obuasi Senior High Technical School, noted alterations to the original plans have delayed the project past its June deadline. Once completed, it aims to inspire science-oriented schools in Obuasi and neighboring districts to form robotics clubs, promoting innovative career paths. The Akrokeri Hospital project is 45% complete and is expected to improve healthcare services in the area.

Mrs. Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei, Social Development and Gender Superintendent of AGA, emphasized the purpose of the visit was to assess project progress. She expressed concerns about the slow pace at some sites and
urged contractors to expedite their work.
