The Chinese companies in Ethiopia are playing significant role in the overall economic development and are discharging their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide said.
The 2023 CSR Forum: Chinese Enterprise in Ethiopia is undertaking today under the theme “Join Hands with Ethiopia for a Win-Win Future”.
In his opening remark, Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide said Ethiopia and China have strong bilateral relationship based on mutual trust.
He added that China has been active in the major infrastructure development undertakings including Addis-Djibouti Railway, express way, energy as well as in providing scholarship opportunities, capacity building and agriculture and health spheres.
Stating the trade between the two countries has enhanced over the last 10 years, the minister pointed out that Ethiopia looks forward to cooperate in the area of natural resource development.
Furthermore, Ahmed lauded Chinese support to Ethiopia during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhiyuan on his part said the bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and China has heightened to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. According to Ambassador Zhiyuan, there are over 1800 Chinese investment projects worth of 4.8 billion US dollar investments in Ethiopia.
The Ambassador underscored that the companies are carrying out their due corporate social responsibility in job creation, environmental protection, and social welfare. National Rehabilitation Commissioner, Ambassador Teshome Toga, former President Mulatu Teshome, Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation CEO, Aklilu Tadesse and Ethiopian Investment Commissioner Lelise Neme as well as President of China Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia, Tao Hong are attending the forum.
