Addis Ababa: Ethiopia and Algeria vowed to enhance bilateral cooperation to maintain regional peace.
Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie and his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf met on Sunday in New York on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) to discuss issues of common interest.
In the course of their discussion, Ambassador Taye noted with appreciation the longstanding relations between Ethiopia and Algeria while stressing the need for coordinated efforts between the two countries to secure regional peace and security in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
The two sides also discussed ongoing preparations to convene the 5th Ethio-Algeria Joint Ministerial Commission meeting, which they agreed should be held as early as possible.
Algeria is currently a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council as of January 2024.
