Ethiopia and China Commit to Strengthening Trade Ties


Addis Ababa: Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Kassahun Gofe, met with a delegation led by Chen Jian’an, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), to discuss enhancing trade relations between Ethiopia and China. The focus of the meeting was to further cement the trade partnership between the two nations.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, China is recognized as Ethiopia’s largest trading partner and the leading source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country. The trade relationship has facilitated a substantial inflow of FDI into Ethiopia, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic landscape.

Minister Kassahun detailed Ethiopia’s ongoing reforms and policies aimed at increasing trade and investment. He proposed strategies to strengthen the bilateral relationship, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving mutual economic benefits.

The Chinese delegation expressed appreciation for the achievements they observed
during their visit to various Ethiopian sites. They extended an invitation to Ethiopia to participate in the upcoming third International Expo scheduled for July, signaling continued interest in fostering trade relations.

Moreover, the Ethiopian delegation sought support in linking the Ethiopian business community with the Chinese market, aiming to expand trade opportunities and economic cooperation.
