Ethiopia and Israel Commit to Strengthening Diplomatic and Economic Ties


Addis Ababa: Ethiopia and Israel have pledged to enhance their diplomatic and economic relations following a meeting between Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, and the Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia, Avraham Neguise. The discussions were centered on expanding cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, and technology transfer.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, both countries reiterated their commitment to collaborating more closely, with a focus on utilizing Israel’s investments and advanced technologies to aid Ethiopia’s economic reforms and development efforts. The meeting highlights the strategic intent to bolster ties that have deep historical roots.



The historical connection between Ethiopia and Israel dates back to Biblical times, with the Ethiopian Jewish (Beta Israel) community playing a significant role in the relationship. Over 180,000 Ethiopian Jews live in Israel, serving as a vital link that strengthens cultural, historical, and diplomatic bonds between the two nations.
