Ethiopia and Slovenia Plan to Collaborate on Agricultural Initiatives


Addis Ababa: Ethiopia and Slovenia have expressed their desire to foster collaborations in the field of agriculture. Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente met with Kristina Radej, the Ambassador of Slovenia to Ethiopia, to discuss various ways in which the two countries can collaborate in the agricultural field.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Minister and the Ambassador discussed apiculture and the celebration of the 2nd World Bee Day. Minister Girma emphasized that the Ethiopian government has been giving special attention to the agriculture sector over the past six years to ensure food self-sufficiency for its citizens. The Minister elaborated on the aggressive efforts of the government and detailed key national agricultural programs, including irrigated wheat development, the Green Legacy initiative, and the Bounty of Basket development program, all executed in a bid to enhance agricultural productivity. As a result, significant progress was noted, he said.



Acknowledging Slovenia’s role in establishing World Bee Day, Minister Girma expressed Ethiopia’s interest in learning from Slovenia’s expertise. Slovenia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Kristina Radej, shared insights into her country’s agricultural practices and its role in establishing World Bee Day. The Ambassador affirmed Slovenia’s commitment to sharing its expertise with Ethiopia, specifically in apiculture and Bee Day event organization, and reiterated her country’s pledge to support Ethiopia in these areas.
