Ethiopia Calls on G7 Member States to Invest in Ethiopia’s Agricultural Sector


Addis Ababa: Ethiopian delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente is taking part in an agricultural forum of G7 countries, which is being held in Syracuse, Italy.

According to Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ethiopia is one of a handful of countries that were invited to the forum. The Minister has shared the forum Ethiopia’s experience in investment in agriculture.

He highlighted Ethiopia’s agricultural policy that helped the country employ its immense potential for growth in the sector.

In this regard, Girma also talked about the encouraging results Ethiopia has been able to register through mechanized farming.

According to the Minister, the changes in the sector coupled with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s various initiatives in wheat farming, enabled Ethiopia to produce more than 23 million tons of wheat that satisfied demand in the country.

He finally stressed the need for African countries to cooperate in securing food self- sufficiency by employing the Continent’s untapped resources, further
stating Ethiopia’s willingness to share its experience.

The Minister also called on the G7 member States to take note of Ethiopia’s Agricultural Transformation Roadmap and exploit the opportunities provided there by investing in the sector.
