Ethiopia Finalizes Preparations to Host 38th AU Summit, Welcome Participants

Addis Ababa: Ethiopia has finalized preparations to successfully host the 38th African Union General Assembly and the 46th African Union (AU) Executive Council. The National Committee, established for the summit, announced that it has completed preparations, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees in this upcoming significant continental gathering.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Head of the Committee and State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, stated that the 35-member committee has introduced innovative approaches, including recruiting 101 trained volunteers for protocol services. The committee, led by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is committed to delivering successful hospitality and welcoming services for this year’s unique and engaging event.

Ambassador Ayano highlighted that Addis Ababa hosted over 40 continental and international events in the past six months alone, solidifying its role as a diplomatic hub and its immense experience in hosting continental and international events for decades. A manual for the Summit has been prepared to ensure clarity, and volunteer cadets fluent in various foreign languages-English, Arabic, and French-have been trained to avoid communication gaps.

Awareness campaigns for hotels, transportation, and service providers have been created. Ethiopian Federal Police, Addis Ababa Police, and the National Intelligence Service are also jointly stepping up security ahead of the AU Summit, the head pointed out. Additionally, systems for providing electricity, water, and telecom services have been set up, while Ethiopian Airlines has allocated staff for efficient immigration and customs services. The Ethiopian Media Authority has also arranged necessary services for media outlets and professionals who will come here across the globe to report the summit.
