Ethiopia Fully Prepared to Host Upcoming AU Summit

Addis Ababa: Ethiopia is more ready than ever to host the upcoming AU summit, which will take place from 15 to 16 February in Addis Ababa, Tourism State Minister Sileshi Girma said. “We are more ready than ever to host the AU summit in a broader perspective and create a good image of the country,” he added.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, from revitalized infrastructure to enhanced amenities, Addis Ababa is prepared to provide a seamless and enriching experience for visiting dignitaries and delegates, the state minister stated, recalling Addis Ababa’s position as a premier destination for conference tourism. He mentioned that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s transformative projects would promote tourism. “This year’s summit provides an opportunity to demonstrate not only Ethiopia’s commitment to the AU’s mission but also its capacity to host world-class events,” Sileshi stressed.

Africa’s diplomatic capital, Addis Ababa, has undergone a significant facelift, boasting newly developed green spaces, creating attractive tourist attractions, improved public transportation, including dedicated biking trails and pedestrian walkways, and upgraded road networks. These provide greater accessibility throughout the city and offer delegates opportunities for recreation and leisure, the state minister said.

Hotels across the city, from one to five-stars, have undergone extensive preparations with staff receiving specialized training to ensure exceptional service and smooth experience for all summit attendees. Addis Ababa has made remarkable strides in its hospitality sector, now boasting over 50,000 star-class hotel rooms-a significant leap from fewer than 15,000 just a few years ago, he pointed out.

All this impressive growth reflects the city’s rapid development as a key hub for tourism, business, and international diplomacy in Africa. With world-class accommodations and enhanced infrastructure, Addis Ababa is poised to welcome even more visitors, further boosting the local economy and solidifying its status as a premier destination on the continent.

This coordinated effort, led by Ministry of Foreign Affairs in close collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, extends to airport personnel and private businesses, including transportation providers. The recent expansion of Bole International Airport and the increase in flight options further solidify Addis Ababa’s accessibility.

Beyond the summit, Sileshi noted that Addis Ababa is making a strong case for itself as a leading conference hub in Africa. The city boasts state-of-the-art conference facilities, including the newly inaugurated Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, which has a state-of-the-art conference facility, and a growing number of international hotel chains offering world-class accommodations and meeting spaces, he elaborated.

The nation has the accommodation and world-class state-of-the-art conference facilities in the capital, the state minister pointed out, adding that Addis Ababa’s competitive edge is further strengthened by its accessibility to Ethiopian Airlines extensive network connecting the city to over 100 destinations worldwide. “Ethiopian Airlines, the spirit of Africa, is now connecting the country to 100-plus destinations,” he said. And once within the city, the improved infrastructure ensures easy access to venues and other attractions.

Addis Ababa also offers a unique blend of cultural richness and modern amenities. Delegates can explore historical sites, vibrant markets, and enjoy the city’s diverse culinary scene, according to the state minister. In brief, Sileshi concluded that Addis Ababa is ready to accommodate every world-class conference and exhibitions.
