Ethiopia, Germany Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Development Partnership


Addis Ababa: Ethiopia and Germany held their consultations reaffirming to strengthening their development partnership as Ethiopia advances its Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda 2.0.

During the discussions, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide emphasized the critical role of international support in achieving the country’s economic reform goals.

He highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to the reforms and the need for support from partners like Germany to complement its efforts in this profound transformation.

Ambassador Jens Hanefeld of Germany highlighting the historical significance of the relationship between the two countries, pledged support to further strengthen the bilateral ties.

He also expressed hope that the consultations would lead to a clearer understanding of ongoing efforts and future collaboration.

Moreover, Marcus von Essen, Head of Division for East Africa at the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, reiterated his willingness to explore additional areas of cooperat
ion between the two nations.

Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew expressed gratitude to Germany for its steadfast support, stating, ‘Your commitment to our partnership has been invaluable and speaks to our shared vision for a prosperous future.’

Finally, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany announced its intention to provide a total of 56.5 million Euros in financial and technical assistance to support the Productive Safety Net Program, promotion of Ethiopian small and medium enterprises, education programs, land governance, and rural value chains in the coming years.
