Ethiopia Prepares to Host African Union Summit with Renewed Dedication to Pan-African Ideals


Addis Ababa: Ethiopia is reaffirming its commitment to the African Union’s objectives and the principles of Pan-Africanism, as stated by Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Muktar Mohamed Ware. With the upcoming African Union summit on the horizon, Ethiopia is diligently preparing to welcome African leaders and international participants, aiming to deliver an event of the highest standards.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the summit will feature the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government on February 15-16, 2025, and the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on February 12-13, 2025. Ambassador Muktar Mohamed emphasized Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to the African Union’s goals and Pan-African ideals, viewing the opportunity to host the summit as a privilege.



Addis Ababa, the city that houses the Economic Commission for Africa and the AU headquarters, plays a crucial role as a hub for conference tourism. This year, the city is poised to welcome African leaders with a refreshed look, thanks to significant infrastructural improvements designed to enhance the visitor experience.



The ambassador highlighted that Addis Ababa’s status as a diplomatic center is a testament to the efforts of past generations, and it is now up to current and future Ethiopians to uphold this reputation. He stressed that the upcoming AU summit symbolizes Ethiopia’s dedication to continental unity and progress, projecting the nation as the diplomatic heart of Africa, thereby boosting its global standing.



Ambassador Muktar expressed confidence in the event’s success, citing the capital city’s transformation as indicative of Ethiopia’s role as Africa’s capital. He praised initiatives by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other leaders aimed at making the city more hospitable for guests.



“This is a significant time for Africa,” he stated, “as we witness the transformation of Addis Ababa and the developments necessary to host the AU at the highest level. It is a source of pride for us as Ethiopian citizens, diplomats, and as a country with a long history of independence and Pan-Africanism,” concluded Ambassador Muktar.
