Addis Ababa: The Government of Ethiopia has successfully repatriated 32 Ethiopian citizens who were stranded in Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, these individuals are part of a larger group of 133 Ethiopians who were initially relocated to Thailand with the assistance of the Ethiopian Embassy in India. The government has also confirmed that an additional 43 Ethiopian citizens are expected to arrive later tonight, with ongoing efforts to repatriate the remaining individuals.
The Ethiopian government is actively facilitating the repatriation process through its embassy in Japan, coordinating the movement from Myanmar to Thailand and ultimately back to Ethiopia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of these efforts and highlighted the logistical cooperation involved.
Additionally, the ministry issued a warning to the public to remain vigilant against human traffickers. These traffickers often lure individuals with false job promises in countries where there are no binding labor agreements, posing significant risks to the safety and well-being of Ethiopian citizens abroad.
