Bishoftu: The Ethiopian Air Force has announced its intention to play a crucial role in enhancing collaboration among African air forces, urging countries across the continent to unite in advancing their technological capabilities.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the statement was made during the second African Air Force Forum, which took place at the Ethiopian Air Force Base in Bishoftu. The event gathered air force commanders from nations including Morocco, Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, Kenya, Rwanda, Djibouti, Nigeria, Congo Brazzaville, and Niger, coinciding with the 89th anniversary of the founding of the Ethiopian Air Force.
Ethiopian Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Yilma Merdasa called upon African nations to collaborate in improving their air technology capabilities. He highlighted Ethiopia’s pioneering role as the first African country to acquire air force technology 89 years ago and emphasized the ongoing reforms and modernization efforts within the Ethiopian Air Force.
The forum, aimed at fostering c
ooperation and experience sharing among African air forces, also discussed the establishment of an African Air Force Association. This initiative seeks to enhance regional collaboration and promote a unified approach to air force education and training.
Lt. Gen. Yilma stressed the significance of regional cooperation to bolster the capabilities of African air forces. He pointed out that the rapid advancements in air force technology necessitate adaptation and innovation to safeguard national sovereignty.
The Ethiopian Air Force is dedicated to partnering with its African counterparts to improve technological capabilities and human resource development, thereby strengthening the overall capacity of African air forces. Through these joint efforts, African nations can enhance their air force capabilities, ensure airspace security, and contribute to regional peace and stability.
