Ethiopian Airlines Achieves Significant Growth in Line with Vision 2035


Addis Ababa: Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s leading carrier, has reported substantial growth and expansion during the 2016 Ethiopian Fiscal Year, aligning with its ambitious Vision 2035.

Ethiopian Airlines Group generated revenue of 7.02 billion USD, a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year.

This long-term strategic development plan aims to significantly expand operations and solidify the airline’s position as a leading aviation group in Africa, it was indicated.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew unveiled the airline’s performance during a press conference today, providing insights mainly into the previous Ethiopian Fiscal Year’s accomplishments.

Mesfin emphasized the year as one of significant growth, reflecting the airline’s long-term development vision 2035.

The operationalization of five new aircraft, the addition of five international and three domestic destinations expanded the airline’s network to 139 international and 21 domestic destinations, excluding Bole International Airpor
t, he pointed out.

However, fleet expansion was constrained by delays in aircraft deliveries from Boeing and manufacturers, he stressed.

Nevertheless, the airline was able to transport a total of 17.1 million passengers during the year, showing 23 percent increment from the previous year.

The passenger flight hours reached a total of 577, 746, showing 19 percent increment compared to the previous Ethiopian fiscal year, he said.

The airline has transported 754,681 tons of cargo with 6 percent increment from previous year.

Overall, Ethiopian Airlines Group generated revenue of 7.02 billion USD, a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Passenger flights contributed 5 billion USD to the total revenue earned in the year, he noted.

The CEO concluded by highlighting the airline’s progress towards its vision, emphasizing aircraft orders, network expansion, infrastructure development, and human capital investment as key indicators of the airline’s growth trajectory.
