Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Highlights Russia-Africa Partnership for Advancing Agenda 2063.


Sochi: Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Gedion Timothewos, has emphasized the significance of utilizing the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum as a strategic platform to advance the objectives of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The Minister highlighted the enduring historical connections between Russia and Africa during the inaugural Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum held from November 9-10, 2024, in Sochi, Russia.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Gedion underscored the need to bolster economic collaboration between Africa and Russia, focusing specifically on Foreign Direct Investment and trade. He also pointed out the importance of enhancing cooperation in science and technology to ensure mutual benefits for both regions.

The Minister reiterated the value of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in promoting key development areas including agricultural productivity, adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, expansion of Africa’s industrial base, and a
ddressing climate change challenges. Gedion also expressed Ethiopia’s support for Russia’s willingness to expedite comprehensive reforms at the UN and advocate for Africa’s permanent representation on the UN Security Council.

Additionally, Gedion reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. This Ministerial Conference, the first of its kind, aims to build on the outcomes of the First and Second Russia-Africa Summits, in which Ethiopia actively participated at the highest level.

On the sidelines of the conference, Gedion engaged in bilateral discussions with several African counterparts to strengthen relationships and explore opportunities for cooperation.
