Bale Robe: The Chief Administrator of Oromia region, Shimelis Abdisa, stated that the infrastructure constructions being carried out by Ethiopian Airlines are significantly contributing to the enhancement of trade and investment activities in the region.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Chief Administrator made these remarks at the inauguration ceremony of a new passenger terminal at the Wako Gutu Airport in Bale Robe. Ethiopian Airlines constructed the terminal at a cost of 1.1 billion Birr, aiming to address infrastructural challenges and boost regional development.
Shimelis emphasized the airline’s commitment to development initiatives, highlighting that the new infrastructure will play a crucial role in facilitating trade and investment opportunities. He noted that the terminal’s location in Bale, an area rich in agricultural and tourism potential, adds to its importance.
The Chief Administrator also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for naming the airport after the hero General Wako Gutu on behalf of the regional government. This expansion is anticipated to positively impact tourism, particularly in attractions like the Bale Mountains National Park and the Sof Omar Cave.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates 14 flights weekly from Addis Ababa to Wako Gutu Airport in Bale Robe, serving a total of 22 domestic destinations.
