Finland Keen on Diversifying Cooperation with Ethiopia: Ambassador Antila


Addis Ababa: Finland’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sinikka Antila, stated her country’s interest in diversifying partnerships with Ethiopia across various sectors.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Antila emphasized the longstanding development cooperation between Finland and Ethiopia. Finland aims to expand its partnerships particularly in the areas of digitalization, education, and peace mediation.



Finland has been a significant partner in Ethiopia’s development for over 35 years, with a focus on education, water supply, and agriculture. This year marks 30 years of cooperation in water supply projects between the two nations. Ambassador Antila noted Finland’s commitment to expanding collaboration in digitalization, leveraging its technology expertise to enhance Ethiopia’s development.



“We are very keen on digitalization,” she noted, highlighting Finland’s work with companies such as Nokia, Ethio-telecom, and Safaricom. Ambassador Antila further explained that Finland has a niche in inclusive education, aiming to ensure access for all, including individuals with disabilities.



She also mentioned that Finland’s community-based water supply projects have significantly improved access to clean water, reducing the burden on women and children. Ambassador Antila expressed her admiration for the ongoing development projects in Addis Ababa, such as new roads and parks, and praised the transformation she has witnessed during her time in the city.



Furthermore, she expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s cultural heritage and tourist sites, mentioning Axum and Lalibela as notable attractions.
