Addis Ababa: Ethiopia’s Ambassador Genet Teshome Jirru met with Tatyana Dovgalenko, Director of the Department for Partnership with Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Tatyana explained that the formation of her Department in the Foreign Ministry is a clear testimony that the relationships between Africa and Russia are broadening and deepening significantly. She further stated that the decision to establish the Department is a sign of priority and commitment of the Russian government towards multilateral cooperation with the African continent.
The Department will work with both the African Union and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) as well as individual member countries to ensure synergy and efficiency, the Director underlined.
On his part, Ambassador Genet commended the decision of the Ministry to set up the Department and expressed his hope that the new structure would enable the Russian Federation and Africa to enhance their cooperation and partnership for mutual benefit and advance multilateralism.
The partnership between Russia and Africa needs to draw lessons from other partnerships in terms of decision making at the highest level and project implementation at country level to better utilize resources and complete projects as per the action plans agreed by both sides, Ambassador Genet stressed.
