The Government of Somalia announced that the exit strategy of the troops from the African Transition Mission in Somalia and on-going drawdown plan will be conducted as scheduled earlier, National Security Advisor to the President, Hussein Moalim told SONNA.
Hussein said that ATMIS forces’ withdrawal will be completed on December 30, 2024 according to the plan agreed.
‘The Somali Government is completely prepared to take responsibility our security from ATMIS, we intend to launch the second phase of the offensive operation against Al-Shabaab soon’, Hussein Moalim said.
He also expressed optimism over lifting arms embargo in the country, saying United Nations Security Council will end this in November this year and the move will enable for the Government to import weapons from abroad.
