IGAD Spokesperson Visits Ethiopian News Agency, Commends African-focused Media Initiative

Addis Ababa: Spokesperson for the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Patience Nyange, lauded the Ethiopian News Agency for its efforts in promoting an African perspective and its strides towards digital transformation in the evolving media landscape.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Nyange’s visit came on the sidelines of the 38th AU summit in Addis Ababa, where she praised ENA-the sole news wire service equipped with state-of-the-art editing and recording facilities. ENA is currently developing a digital transcontinental media platform named Pulse of Africa, intended to serve as an African-centered media outlet.

Nyange highlighted that the Pulse of Africa exemplifies digital advancement and will contribute significantly to narrating the African story. She emphasized that Africans are increasingly investing in digital transformation innovations globally, ensuring they are not left behind.

She stated that the Pulse of Africa would aid Africa’s efforts in presenting authentic stories of the continent, noting that “African solutions will be driven from African solutions.” Nyange also expressed her belief that Africa, being a beautiful continent, deserves to have its stories told from its own local perspectives.

Additionally, the Spokesperson reiterated IGAD’s commitment to collaborating with the Ethiopian News Agency and other media organizations within the IGAD region through various initiatives. She mentioned the collaboration with media houses to frequently train journalists, offer short courses, and recognize journalists through the IGAD Media Awards.
