Addis Ababa: The United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) Executive Director, Nicodemus Bore, has urged for the formation of transcontinental media to promote the true images of Africa and shape its own narrative. Bore highlighted the steadily growing cooperation between Ethiopia and Kenya in this initiative.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Bore praised Ethiopia’s initiative to create an African-oriented media, which is seen as instrumental in fostering positive rhetoric across Africa and combating prejudiced portrayals of the continent. During the 35th annual African Union Summit in 2022, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed called for the establishment of a continental media to fight disinformation. He indicated that such a media house would help African countries provide authoritative news, promote the African agenda, and strengthen Africa’s voice globally.
Ethiopia has been taking practical measures to establish a pan-African media house, demonstrating the continent’s desire for this initiative. During his visit to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) on Monday, Bore acknowledged the agency’s cutting-edge media facilities as a testament to becoming the voice of Africa. ENA is currently embarking on creating a transcontinental digital media outlet named Pulse of Africa (POA) to serve as an African-oriented media.
Bore emphasized the importance of supporting African-oriented media initiatives like Pulse of Africa, a pan-African media with a digital focus. “I think once we have the Pulse of Africa, we are going to support it across Africa. So that we can be giving to the world the correct information, not only on matters of development and growth, but also on internal matters that we can be able to tell the world,” he stated.
Discussing the bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and Kenya, Bore noted that the two countries have long been at the forefront of promoting pan-Africanism and unity across the continent. He explained that both countries are working to foster peace, cooperation, and shared development within Africa. “As you are aware, Kenya and Ethiopia are in the forefront in fighting for inclusion of everyone into the pan Africanism,” he added.
