Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Nana Nyarko Osae has been inducted into office as the new Commanding Officer (CO) of the Second Infantry Battalion (2BN), at Apremdo, in the Western Region.
He succeeded Lt. Col. Daniel Atobrah Bondah, who has been moved to serve as the Directing Staff at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
Lt. Col. Bondah, speaking at a handing over ceremony said he was humbled to have served the great 2BN which he described as an elite unit in the Ghana Army with enviable achievements.
He said: ‘Having been given the opportunity to walk in the shoes of our forebearers, I want to assure the Myohaung Family that we shall collectively lift high the banner of the fighting spirit of this great Unit.’
He stated that the current security environment was complex and unpredictable, and called on personnel to be innovative and proactive to uphold sovereignty of the state and meet government objectives.
‘The unit’s vision is to develop a cohesive, versatile, and highly motivated team capab
le of effectively accomplishing all assigned tasks,’ he noted.
Lt. Col. Bondah noted that the unit had made a unique difference and attributed their progress to their strong unity.
He expressed gratitude to the officers, soldiers, Defence civilian staff, and others for their support during his tenure.
He requested that the same level of support be extended to the new CO
Brigadier General Samuel Yeboah Asare, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, who was the Guest of Honour for the event, commended the personnel of the Unit for their professionalism and dedication that had earned them enviable accolades in the Ghana Army and the Western part of the country.
He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Bondah for his exemplary leadership, dedicated service and strong desire for excellence, saying, his leadership style and attributes had contributed immensely in navigating the Unit successfully to greater heights.
He charged junior and middle-level commanders in the
unit to exhibit the same good leadership qualities for the growth of the Army.
He congratulated the new CO, Lt. Col. Osae on his appointment as the Commanding Officer of the 2BN Unit, saying ‘you are stepping into big shoes, but I have no doubt that under your leadership, the Unit will continue to achieve excellence and maintain the prestigious high standard set by your predecessors.’
Lt. Col. Osae expressed appreciation to personnel for the warm reception and asked them to collectively rally behind him to uphold the ideals of the 2BN and the Ghana Armed Forces in general.
The ceremony saw a parade display and inspection and handing over of regimental colours with important dignitaries gracing the occasion.
