Mogadishu, The Minister of Sport and Youth of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Barre Mohamud received the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Somalia. The Minister praised the role of the United Nations in supporting the Somali people during the difficult times and maintaining aid issues, supporting political issues and encouraging good governance.
The Minister specifically mentioned the role of the youth in matters of peace and stability in Somalia and stressed that the youth are the most important unit that can improve this, saying that they have prepared programs to direct the strength of the youth.
On her part, the deputy representative of the United Nation’s Secretary General praised the minister’s plans for the development of young people in their participation in politics, fighting extremism and preparing an environment that allows them to take a high position in the country’s leadership.
The deputy representative of the secretary general has welcomed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Federal Government of Somalia has prepared a policy for Somali youth and stated that it will be linked to the general policy of the United Nations and will allow them to be aligned with the Somali youth policy that has been prepared.
Madam Anita promised full support to the Minister and his delegation to the Somali youth and promised to order all UN agencies working in Somalia to work closely with the Ministry because it is busy directing more than 70% of the Somali community who are young people.
The Minister was accompanied by the director general of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Deeq Suleiman Yusuf and other officials of the ministry. On the United Nations side, Martha Wanjala, who is the youth section of the representative secretary general’s office, was part of the meeting.
