Ethiopia has carried out successful diplomatic activities that respect its national interests during the 37th African Union Summit according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Briefing the media today, Spokesperson of the ministry Ambassador Meles Alem said that successful diplomatic activities have been carried out on the basis of national interest of the country at the 37th African Union Summit.
He elaborated that host of discussions have been held with many countries on the sidelines of the AU Summit to further strengthen effective bilateral and multilateral relations with countries.
The agreements signed with Angola and South Africa on the sidelines of the AU summit was a great achievement, he said, adding that Ethiopian diplomacy is rising.
Moreover, he added that effective discussion was held with Zimbabwe, which has a historical friendship, and that they reached an agreement to work together in agriculture and other fields.
On the other hand, Ethiopia-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission was held i
n Addis Ababa, where the two countries signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in various sectors to further expedite the cooperation between the two countries.
The MoU was inked in seven key areas including, culture, tourism, petroleum sector development, wildlife protection, blue economy and fisheries, correctional services, and capacity building.
Moreover, Ambassador Meles elaborated that Kenya removed Ethiopian citizens from Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) related electronic payment requirements.
Thus, Ethiopian citizens will not be required to pay traveler charges.
He recalled that the two countries had a visa waiver agreement in 1958.
Noting this made it easier for travels of citizens from the two countries, he said that the visa agreement has not been abrogated.
