Addis Ababa: The national flag of Ethiopia is an emblem of unity within diversity and the gallant patriotism of Ethiopians for sovereignty, President Taye Atske-Selassie said.
The 17th national flag day was celebrated today at the premises of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) in the presence of President Taye Atske-Selassie, HPR House Speaker Tagesse Chafo, and other high-ranking government officials.
During the celebration, President Taye said that the flag is a symbol of Ethiopia’s unity maintained through the sacrifices of the brave forefathers.
The national flag is an emblem where successive generations of Ethiopia have made heroic sacrifices for freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, he stressed.
Ethiopians stood in unison under the national flag to fight against foreign adversaries and maintained national pride, the president stated, and called on the current generation to make relentless efforts to achieve overall prosperity.
Ethiopia has a long history of nation building, the president stated, and emphasized that the country has inspired many African countries in their struggle for independence.
President Taye urged citizens to do everything within their capacity towards building a stronger, prosperous and resilient Ethiopia.
