The Ghana Police Service has denied reports that demonstrators were shot at the Kumasi offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) during the ‘enough is enough,’ protest in the city.
‘No demonstrator has been injured by the Police,’ a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) said.
The statement stated however that some demonstrators who went against the agreed arrangement by forcing their way into the compound of the EC office were restrained.
It urged the media to be circumspect in their reportage.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition political party, held a nationwide protest on Tuesday, seeking a forensic assessment of the voters’ register over inconsistencies.
The ‘enough is enough’ demonstration also called for the swift publication of the forensic audit, the reversal of any illegal voter transfers, and a five-day re-exhibition of the roll, among other things.
