Addis Ababa: Oromia Regional Government and a senior leader of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) have signed a peace agreement in Addis Ababa. Former leader of the OLA, Jaal Senay Negasa, accepted the government’s call for peace and signed the peace agreement with the Oromia Regional Government today.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Jaal Senay Negasa signed the peace agreement with the President of the Oromia Regional Government, Shimelis Abdisa. The ceremony was attended by Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, who expressed gratitude to those who have chosen to pursue peace. He remarked that those who exacerbate conflicts often lack firsthand experience of war, emphasizing the detrimental effects of war and commending the decision to embrace peace.
Field Marshal Birhanu indicated that similar peace initiatives will be pursued in other regions. Oromia Region President Shimelis Abdisa expressed gratitude to the defense forces for their role in facilit
ating the peace agreement.
Jaal Senay Negasa emphasized that the agreement signifies significant relief for the Oromo people. He highlighted the importance of resolving political differences through dialogue rather than conflict, advocating for a more civilized approach to political disputes.
