Over 157 Million Saplings Planted Thus Far As Part of Single Day Campaign


Addis Ababa: Government Communication Service (GCS) disclosed that over 157 tree seedlings have already been planted in a single day Green Legacy campaign, setting to plant 600 million trees.

In the early hours of this morning, the East African nation has witnessed millions nationwide turn out to break their own record by planting 600 million saplings from dawn to dusk in its Green Legacy Initiative.

Government Communication Service State Minister Selamawit Kassa indicated that some 7.5 million people have so far participated in this overnight seedlings program.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed wrote on X that with the conclusion of today’s event, we will have planted around 40 billion seedlings since the launch of the Green Legacy program in 2019.

The initiative has become a grand national program and an ambitious move to counter the effects of deforestation and climate change, it was learned.
