PM Abiy’s Participation at BRICS Summit, official Visit to Malaysia Successful: Press Secretary


Addis Ababa: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had a successful participation at the BRICS Summit, Head of Press Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Billene Seyoum said.

The premier’s official visit to Malaysia was also fruitful.

The 16th BRICS Summit was held in Kazan, Russia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed participated in the summit along with a delegation of ministers.

The Prime Minister has also made an official visit to Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur along with a delegation of ministers.

Head of Press Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Billene Seyoum, gave an a briefing regarding the Prime Minister’s participation at the BRICS Summit and his visit to Malaysia.

The head stated that the BRICS Summit is the first summit that Ethiopia has participated after becoming a member.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had effectively participated in the summit while also holding successful bilateral and multilateral discussions.

In his speech at the summit, the prime minister urged for reform of the global financial
system and stated that Africa should be permanently represented in the UN Security Council.

The reform of the Security Council and the financial system are issues that the Prime Minister has repeatedly raised in various international forums, Billene indicated.

Prime Minister Abiy has reflected Ethiopia’s positions during his bilateral discussions held on the sidelines of the summit with the leaders of BRICS member and countries that have interest to become member of the bloc.

In his official visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had a discussion with the country’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, according to the head of the Press Secretary.

During the discussion a mutual understanding was reached to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between the two countries.

On the occasion, premier Abiy called on Malaysian investors to take advantage of the favorable investment climate in Ethiopia.
