President Ramaphosa, PM Hachani in Addis for 37th AU Summit


Addis Ababa: The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa and Prime Minister of Tunisia Ahmed Hachani have arrived in Addis Ababa for the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

President Ramaphosa and Prime Minister Hachani were warmly received by Ethiopia’s Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands, Aisha Mohamed up on arrival at Bole International Airport this afternoon.

The 37th AU’s Heads of State and Government summit will be convened between February 17 and 18.

Leaders of the continental organization, international institutions and invited guests have been arriving in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa since Thursday to attend the annual summit.

The Assembly is expected to discuss the status of peace and security on the continent, regional integration, and development.

The highlight of the 37th Ordinary Session will also be the launch of the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of the AU’s Agenda 2063: ‘The Africa we want’.

Agenda 2063 s
erves as a fifty-year blueprint for Africa’s socio-economic development and integration, adopted by the AU member states after extensive consultations across the continent.

In 2024, the African Union is set to pay special attention to education and training with the theme of the year focusing on educating an Africa fit for the 21st century: building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, qualitative, lifelong and relevant learning for Africa.
