Addis Ababa: President Taye Atske Selassie has held talks with Speaker Valentina Matvienko of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation today.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Head of the Office of the President, Tizita Mulugeta, stated that the discussion focused on strengthening the long-standing political and economic relationship and cooperation between Ethiopia and Russia.
President Taye emphasized the importance of bolstering the relations, acknowledging the historical bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries. Ethiopia and Russia have maintained cooperation based on respect for sovereignty, the president noted.
The president highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation in science, education, culture, and fields such as the economy. The office head also said that Valentina Matvienko expressed her visit to Ethiopia as an opportunity to enhance overall cooperation between the countries.
The speaker expressed her commitment to building strong relations in science, technology, and the economy. The Russian high-level delegation, led by the speaker, was in Ethiopia for a two-day official visit.
Before her discussion with the president, the speaker engaged in discussions with top Ethiopian government officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, House of Federation Speaker Agegnehu Teshager, and House of People’s Representatives Speaker Tagese Chafo.
