Revised Provisional Voters’ Register to be released within two weeks – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the Revised Provisional Voters’ Register will be provided to political parties within two weeks following the last Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1, 2024.

The timeline indicates that the Commission was expected to release the Provisional Voters’ Register before October 15, 2024.

In a statement signed by Mr Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair in Charge of Operations, the Commission said reports suggesting the register would be released within one week after the last IPAC meeting are incorrect.

‘For the records, the Chairperson of the EC indicated during the televised IPAC meeting that the Commission would provide the Political Parties with the revised PVR and upload it online within two (2) weeks or earlier.

‘Nowhere in her statement did the Chairperson indicate that the revised PVR would be made available within a week,’ the Commission said.

During the October 1 IPAC meeting, Mrs Jean Mensa, Chairperson, EC, said the exhibition exercise conducted by the Commission provided an opportunity for all stakeholders to flag errors in the register, among other legal remedies provided in the electoral law to address errors in the draft register.

She said the Commission had ‘largely resolved’ the discrepancies that were identified in the register during the exhibition exercise.

Mrs Mensa said calls for a forensic audit of the register were premature as the Commission had not exhausted all available processes to clean the register.

‘The voters’ register is a draft, not the final register. It is not perfect and not final,’ Mrs Mensa said, and added that ‘the register today is more accurate than what was exhibited and presented to the political parties in August this year.’

She said the EC would soon exhibit the provisional voters’ register online for registered voters to verify their details at no cost.
