Tema Industrial Lions Club educates TTI students on personal hygiene?

The Tema Industrial Lions Club, under Lions International, has organised a ‘Youth Health Talk’ programme for students at the Tema Technical Institute (TTI) on the importance of personal hygiene and grooming in building their self-confidence.

Ms. Rachael Mamle Partey, a critical care nurse at the Tema General Hospital, and a resource person for the programme, stated that maintaining personal hygiene was not just about cleanliness but also about self-respect and confidence.

Ms. Partey discussed various aspects of personal hygiene, including skin care, oral health, and body hygiene, emphasising the psychological benefits of looking good, which in turn helps individuals feel good about themselves.

She reminded the students that good hygiene practices, such as regular hand washing, brushing of the teeth, and bathing, are essential for preventing illnesses and enhancing one’s physical and mental well-being.

She discouraged the use of harmful skin-bleaching products, advocating instead for natural beauty and the
acceptance of one’s natural skin tone.

Ms. Partey encouraged the students to incorporate small, consistent hygiene habits into their daily routines to boost their self-confidence and overall health.

Mr. Solomon Antwi, the President of the Tema Industrial Lions Club, said the event was part of a broader initiative to support youth empowerment, one of the organisation’s eight global focuses.?

He mentioned that this engagement’s focus was on educating students about the critical role personal hygiene plays in fostering self-confidence, a vital trait for tomorrow’s leaders.

He emphasised that such educational engagements are an annual tradition for his outfit, adding that each year, the club tackles several topics tied to Lions International’s global focus, which include the environment, childhood cancer, diabetes, hunger relief, vision, and disaster relief.

He mentioned that the sessions were designed to equip the youth with knowledge and skills that contribute to their overall well-being and future success
.

Mr Antwi further called for continued collaboration with resource persons, volunteers, and other like-minded individuals in the community.

He stressed that working together can make a significant impact, urging those who share the Lions’ passion for service to join forces with the club.
