Sekondi: Mr. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, has unveiled the Creative Arts Wall of Fame in Asemensudo, a suburb of Sekondi, within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The wall is intended to honor and immortalize notable individuals from the Western Region who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of Ghana’s creative arts industry.
According to Ghana News Agency, the individuals celebrated on the wall include renowned musicians such as Paapa Yankson, Nana Bosompra, Charles K. Mann, Jewel Ackah, Alfred Benjamin Crentsil, Ebo Taylor, and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley. Also honored are photographer Felicia Ewuraesi Abban and creative artist Kwaw Ansa. Mr. Mercer highlighted during the unveiling ceremony that this initiative aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to honor and preserve the legacies of those whose efforts have elevated the creative arts industry.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) plans to promote the Wall of Fame as a tourist attraction within the Sek
ondi-Takoradi area to stimulate economic growth. The Minister expressed optimism that the presence of prominent musicians whose work is known globally would attract visitors, thereby generating significant traffic and boosting local economic activities.
Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, the Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, praised the Tourism Minister for establishing the wall, emphasizing its potential to enhance tourism in Sekondi-Takoradi. He remarked on the importance of honoring the trailblazers in the creative arts industry who have set an example for future achievements.
Mr. Henry Yeleduor, the Western Regional GTA Director, stated that the monument would complement the region’s numerous tourist sites and committed to marketing the location to draw more visitors. Nana Kwaw Ansa, one of the honored individuals, expressed gratitude to the Tourism Minister and his team for acknowledging their contributions and preserving their legacies for future generations.
