Mogadishu: In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted multiple airstrikes against ISIS-Somalia on March 25, 2025. The operations were targeted in the vicinity of the Golis Mountains, Somalia.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, AFRICOM’s initial assessment indicates that multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives were killed in the airstrikes, and no civilians were harmed. The strikes are part of ongoing efforts by U.S. forces to counter the threats posed by ISIS-Somalia, a group that has demonstrated both the intent and capability to attack U.S. and partner forces.
AFRICOM stated that the activities of ISIS-Somalia pose threats to U.S. security interests. In collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, U.S. Africa Command remains committed to degrading the group’s ability to plan and execute attacks that could impact the U.S. homeland, its forces, and civilians abroad.
The command emphasized the importance of maintaining operations security and therefore did not release specific details about the operation. The ongoing collaboration seeks to ensure the safety and stability of the region while protecting U.S. interests.
