Vihiga: Workers in Vihiga County have Thursday staged a peaceful protest over what they termed the need for promotion, redesignation, and poor working conditions. The staff marched through Mbale town before storming into Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo’s office where they presented a memo of their grievances and demanded to be addressed.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) Vihiga Branch Chairperson, Moses Ombaso, told the Governor that they were unhappy with how the county executive and the County Public Service Board (CPSB) were treating them in regards to their grievances. He said that the staff members would not resume their duties until the demands were met in totality.
In his response, Dr Ottichilo pledged to meet with the CPSB so that they would look into possible modalities for resolving the industrial dispute. The governor said funds to cater for staff remuneration have been included in the 2025-2026 financial budget, which would be based on county human resources committee staff appraisal report.
